The Cut List

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

So here are the ones that didn’t make it this year. I really wished the Bears would of kept Afalava instead of Josh Bullocks. I also wished they would of kept Tim Shaw instead of Brian Iwuh. The dude was ferocious on special teams and it would of been nice if they would of kept him as a back up to Brian Urlacher. With a year or two from learning from a future Hall of Famer, he would be ready to take over for Brian when he retires. That’s just my opinion. If they do keep him on the practice squad, I doubt he’ll stay there for long.

S Al Afalava
WR Freddie Barnes
LB Kevin Malast
CB Cornelius Brown
CB Woodny Turenne

Does anyone else get that feeling?

Saturday, August 7th, 2010

Does anyone else get the feeling the Bears are going to to do big things this year? I just have a feeling the Bears will go deep into the playoffs this year with the help of Peppers on Defense and the offensive mastermind Mike Martz.

I truly think that the Bears have a real shot this year. We all know what Jay Cutler is capable of, and he won’t throw that many interceptions this year. With his receivers having a year under their belt and the help of Martz, he will cut down on turnovers. One thing I’m not totally sold on is the offensive line, but I am sold on Chris Williams. The way he performed late last year was amazing, and I’ll never forget the Bears and Vikings MNF game either. He blocked like a 5 year veteran out there.

The Bears defense was greatly upgraded this year as well. With the acquisition of Julius Peppers and Safety Chris Harris will help out the Bears greatly. I just wish they would of kept Alex Brown, but that’s another story for another day. They also drafted a very respectable safety and defensive end. There will be a lot of speed on the defense this year, and that will help create turnovers.

So yeah, this could be the year… or not. I truly believe it is. What do you think?

Matt Forte is returning to rookie form!

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

I was reading the Chalk Talk on the Bears website earlier today and someone had asked the question, “I’ve been hearing and reading a lot about how running back Matt Forte looked so good during the offseason practices. Would you concur with those reports?”

Larry Mayer went onto say, “I would definitely concur with those reports. It was very evident in minicamp and OTAs that Matt Forte was running with the same speed, quickness and burst that he displayed during his breakout rookie season in 2008. Sometimes when he’s running, especially on a pass route, it appears that he’s gliding. I felt he lost a little bit of that last year, most likely because he was dealing with some leg injuries. I think that Forte will have a very productive season in Mike Martz’s offense, particularly given his ability to catch the ball. He has the top two most prolific seasons in terms of receptions by a Bears running back in franchise history with 63 in 2008 and 57 last year.”

I don’t know about you, but I was very happy to read that. I know that Forte was injured throughout last year and he was probably worn out as well. With hopefully a new offensive line coach, a new offensive coordinator and a running back to share carries with he will set a new career high.

Vincent Jackson to the Bears?

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

It could happen according to some sports beat writers. It certainly wold be nice to have a tall wide receiver on the Bears. He would definitely be an asset in the red zone where the Bears offense had the most trouble last season. I don’t think this would happen to be honest. He’s valuable to the Chargers and why would he leave that has consistently been to the playoffs? On the other hand, they have always choked in the playoffs.

Vincent Jackson has also been targeted by the Washington Redskins and the Seattle Seahawks. I’m sure those teams have more money and draft picks to trade away to get Jackson. If it came down to draft picks, I wouldn’t do it. Especially since the Bears haven’t had a full draft in what… two or three years? So yeah, he would be a great addition to the Bears, but he might cost a little too much.

Alex Brown situation

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

So a couple days ago, Alex Brown decided to drop by Halas Hall and I’m assuming it was to visit with friends and ex-teammates. He was then escorted by security out of the building. To all those Bears haters out there, the  Bears were not giving him the cold shoulder by escorting him out of the building. It’s a rule that you can’t have players from other teams inside YOUR team’s HQ. It’s simple as that folks.

The Bears did nothing wrong, and neither did Alex Brown. Brown is just that friendly enough to waltz into the Bears HQ to see his friends. So no foul here folks. Bears fans still love you Alex, but as long as you are wearing gold and black, you are not allowed to visit Halas Hall.

Slow week in Bears news

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

I really dislike the offseason because of this. Not enough Bears news! Wish they made a channel dedicated to the Bears. It would be on 24/7 and 365 days a year. I would be glued to the TV for months.

According to Jerry Angelo, Major Wright is improving each day. Which is just awesome. They need all the help they can get on defense. Especially since the Bears were ranked… 27th according to a sports analyst. I forget which website, but yeah. That’s pretty bad. Hopefully the Bears read that article and posted it in their locker room to get some inspiration to win games and go to the Super Bowl. They need something to get them inspired and moving.

In the same article about Major Wright, Jerry Angelo talked about the Bears offense throwing interceptions in the OTAs. Hopefully that doesn’t continue when it comes to game time in September. I don’t really feel like having to sit through another interception fest. Of course the interceptions could mean the Bears defense is getting better, or the offense is struggling with Mike Martz’s playbook.  Well practice makes perfect right?

Organized Team Activities begin!

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

One step closer to the start of the season starts with the Bears OTA’s. Been waiting for this since the end of the draft. I just want this season’s OTA’s to be injury free and no camp conflicts. Last thing the Bears need right now is for someone to be injured or a useless fight that can end in bad blood between teammates.

There is a whole lot to watch this year during the OTA’s. Every side of the Bears team has been changed in a major way. They went crazy in free agency and I’m glad they did. They needed help everywhere. Hopefully with the biggest of all FA acquisitions, Julius Peppers makes an immediate impact on that line. They need someone who can get at least one or two sacks a game. It should be pretty fun watching the defense this year, with the return of Safety Chris Harris and the third round draft pick Safety Major Wright. There will be lots of speed out there and hopefully a lot of turnovers. The offense should be pretty fun to watch as well. Especially with Martz coaching them instead of Ron Turner. With Forte completely rested and now has a compliment in the veteran Chester Taylor.

I know I’m getting hyped up and the season hasn’t started yet. Hopefully this year will be the year they win it all. I would like to see the longtime Bears veterans get a ring before they retire.

Terrell Owens?

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

Been reading a lot of stories about Terrell Owens hanging out with Jay Cutler and Greg Olsen. Of course they immediately said that they weren’t talking about business, but I have a feeling that’s not true. I think that Jay could be making a case to  T.O. to join the Bears. He would be an addition to the Bears WR core, but he is also a ‘cancer’ to teams. Seems like wherever he goes, he ends up doing something to mess up team chemistry.

So I can’t really make up my mind, should the Bears go after T.O.?  He would be the No. 1 receiver for the Bears, but at what cost? Both financially and team chemistry is at stake. What do you think?

Turf or Grass?

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

This past year I keep seeing the debate that the Bears should have artificial turf instead of natural grass. I myself have played football on artificial turf before and it’s real nice. You move so much faster, and it just feels like you have a better chance of not slipping or falling like you do on natural grass.

I myself have only seen two downsides of having artificial turf. If you end up sliding after a catch and you don’t have your shins protected or your arms, it can burn. It’s like getting a carpet burn. Well for me it was that way. Could be different for other folks. The other downside to artificial grass is it loses the tradition of the game. The days where men used to wear leather pads and clobber each other on grass.

Natural grass has a few downsides too, like I listed above. You tend to slip and fall, especially at Soldier Field. It’s ridiculously hard when it’s frozen due to the cold weather that Chicago tends to have. I think I read somewhere that Soldier Field is one of the least favorite fields to play on because of that. I am pretty tired of seeing players continually fall down at Soldier Field. I also don’t want to see the natural field taken away because of the long tradition of American Football. So I really can’t make up my mind. What do you think about the matter?

Also, fun fact here. The last time the Bears won a championship, they had artificial turf at Soldier Field.
