Even with an epic performance by Jay Cutler, I’m sure he didn’t shut up any critics Sunday. Especially Trent Dilfer, who seems to have some type of vendetta against Cutler. Give it up Trent. It was a day that Jay will remember for a long time. It was his first ever post season game since high school and he played like a champ. I am very happy for him and his performance. The same goes for everyone on the team. It was a team effort.
If you were to tell me that the Bears would be in the NFC Championship right after the preseason ended, I would of given you a high five. I don’t know if I would of believed it myself, but thankfully everyone on the Bears did and look where they are now. They are playing against their hated rivals for the chance to play in the Super Bowl. I want the Bears to crush them to the point where they will forever remember that it was the Bears who are the better team.
Now onto the game review. Like I said above, it was a great team effort and I am very happy for Cutler. His first post season game as a Bear will be a memorable one. He is the second player in NFL history to throw two touchdowns and rush for two in the post season. I would say that he had a pretty good game and only really made two mistakes I can think of. He almost threw a pick near the goal line and there was one play where he held onto the ball way too long and was sacked. Don’t be afraid to throw it away if you can’t see something down the field Jay. Other than that, he was solid and hopefully shut up a lot of critics. I doubt that he did though. Matt Forte and Chester Taylor had big games. Both were very efficient in the run game and passing game. Both were very clutch throughout the game. Forte had 80 yards on the ground today and 54 yards receiving. Unfortunately he fell short of a touchdown on a good defensive stand by the Seahawks. It was a great day for Forte who didn’t look bothered by any post season jitters. Taylor had 44 yards on the ground and a touchdown for the day. I think that was his best game of the season and I would love to see him continue that into next weeks game against the Packers.
The wide receivers and tight ends had a pretty good day as well. Olsen had a great day, racking up 113 yards and one touchdown with three catches. Think I heard that was the most highest receiving yards by a TE for the Bears since Mike Ditka in the post season. Actually I think he beat out Ditka for that record. Olsen had that great play on the Bears first possession of the game. It was 3rd and short and Cutler saw Olsen streaking up the middle and saw an opening and just threw it up for him. Knox had a great game too with some key first downs. Bennett only had one catch but it came at a great time. I believe it was a third down conversion, something Jay and Earl have been doing since the bye week Don’t want to forget about Kellen Davis, he had two great catches and one of them was for a touchdown that sealed the game.
The defense played outstanding minus the last few Seattle possessions. Of course those touchdowns late in the fourth quarter came off the patented Lovie Smith prevent defense that gives the illusion that it was a close game… Which it wasn’t. The defense dominated the Seahawks all game long. They held the supposed deciding factor for a lot of “Experts” to just 2 yards on 4 carries. There was no ‘Beast Mode’ in Chicago, unless you’re talking about Jay Cutler. Who ran for more yards than the Seahawks. The run defense was spectacular and the same goes for the pass defense. I know it was against Seattle, but still. Everyone in the playoffs starts off with a 0-0 record and they beat out the defending champions in the first round. One of the reasons why the Bears pass defense was spectacular because of Charles Tillman. That had to be one the best performances of his career. He was physical from start to finish, covering up Mike Williams who torched the Bears earlier in the year. The defensive line also had a great part in the pass defense. They were able to pressure Hasselback throughout the game. Even Tommie Harris showed up to the game. He was basically nowhere to be seen throughout the year, but when the Bears needed him the most, he produced. It was a great team effort by all.
For the second time in franchise history the Bears will be facing the Packers in the playoffs. There’s already been a lot of trash talking by the Packers. Including Ryan Grant, who said to fans to buy tickets for the Super Bowl. This is the same Ryan Grant whose been on the bench all year long because of an ankle injury. Just for that I hope the Bears completely annihilate America’s beloved team and maybe shut up a few critics in the process.
